How to get there?

Main activities of the project

Contemporary dance, choreography and participatory video workshops.

The workshops organized by Cía.Danza Vinculados and Útopi Social Films took place in the cultural centers, beaches and fields of the Níjar region during the months of January and October of 2019. They were divided into three stages: January-March, May-July and September-October of 2019.

The objectives of the workshops were to produce and share creative video and dance tools, learn choreographic methods, raise body awareness, develop teamwork tools and strengthen self-esteem. They also aim to work in an inclusive and transgenerational manner, encourage women’s leadership ability in their environment, raise awareness among parallel social realities and promote initiatives of associative nature with environmental and sociocultural sensitivity.

The results of these workshops are the creation of four short dance films shot in different locations in the Níjar region (beaches, fields, boulevards, greenhouses…). These workshops were free and accessible to women from Granada and the Níjar region.

Creation of short dance films

The final result of the project was producing four short dance films. They were scripted, choreographed and performed by the women who participated in the workshops. The short films were directed by Cía. Danza Vinculados’s team of choreographers and Útopi Social Films’s experts in participatory videos and scripts. Those films explore issues related to the different environmental and socio-cultural realities of the Níjar region (Cabo de Gata Natural Park, Campohermoso, San Isidro…). There are two contradictory realities ignored in that region: the beauty and purity of the Natural Park’s almost untouched landscapes which are mainly enjoyed by tourists, and the environmental destruction produced by the greenhouses which in turn provide work for the locals and a large number of immigrants in one of Spain’s poorest areas. Both realities are confronting each other in a struggle that is exhausting resources and women are at the apex of that conflict. They are still sometimes victims of the macho system. However, they often have a big influence and availability of time that allows them to participate in this this project and lead it.

Danza Sin Barreras Dance Days (Dance Without Barriers) in Granada

The results of the project were released in Granada at the Danza Sin Barreras Dance Days, which were held on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of March of 2019 at the Federico García Lorca Center. During this event, we projected the first videodance resulting from the DanceBiosis project, accompanied with a show presented by Cía. Danza Vinculados Senior (performed during the same project). We also had a round table discussion with guests from the University of Granada (UGR) who were environment and gender specialists as well as a discussion between the audience, the artistic team and the participants.
